Salve Regina Cross Monument Renovated

Sandomierz News from August 3, 2008. The devasted last year stone cross monument on the Salve Regina hill in Sandomierz regained its previous look. The renovation works took several months and were financed from the Parish and Municipal funds. The Cross has stood for over one and a half century on one of the most cult and legardary places in Sandomierz. Why the hill was named like this? During the Tatar raid on Sandomierz in 1260 when Tatars captured St. Jacob's Church they killed the monks but before that the monks began singing a song to Virgin Mary - "Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae". Then an ox escaped from the stable and carved the words "Salve Regina" on the hillside.
