Sandomierz News from February 14, 2009. IV International Meeting under the motto of "With the spirit of Saints Cyril and Methodius" has ended in Sandomierz. Bishops from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland participated in the meeting. In the inauguration of the science session Bishop of Sandomierz Andrzej Dzięga reminded that Friar Cyril and Bishop Methodius were brothers who evangelized Slovian nation of Europe in the 9th Century. The main event of the Cyril-and-Methodius Meeting was the solemn Holy Mass celebrated by the former Archbishop of Lviv of the Latins Cardinal Marian Jaworski. On behalf of the Primate of Hungary the homily was spoken by György Udvardy, the Suffragan Bishop of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest. An honourable distinction for the contribution in the intergration of European nations in the spirit of Cyril's and Methodius' missionary work was given to Cardinal Marian Jaworski and Michal Kováč, the first president of Slovakia and promotor of the Meetings. The Holy Mass was preceded by a science session on the topic "Christian Democracy as a Challenge for Modern Europe". Archbishop Mieczysław Mokrzycki described John Paul II's vision of democracy, the origin of Christian democracy was explained by Marek Jurek, former Marshall of Sejm and Christian democracy in relation to the mass media by Priest Tadeusz Zasępa, professor and rector of the Catholic University in Ružomberok in Slovakia.
