Russo-Byzantine frescos uncovered in the Cathedral in Sandomierz

Sandomierz News from March 5, 2009. Christ as the Man of Sorrows carried by the angels and Christ Pantokrator. Noone knew about these fresco fragments funded by King Władysław Jagiełło in the Cathedral of Sandomierz. They were accidently uncovered by a crew of conservators. It's a discovery on European scale. These scenes were hidden under the plasterwork for several hundred years. Such scenes can by found only in the area of former Byzantine Empire, in Balkans or Greece. The paintings in the Cathedral of Sandomierz are the largest Russo-Byzantine frescos funded by King Jagiełło. The renovated frescos in the Cathedral of Sandomierz will be available to see within 3 years.
